TotalEnergies has announced that it will purchase three Texas-based gas-fired power plants from TexGen for a total of US$635 million. The three plants are:

  1. the 745 MW Wolf Hollow I combined-cycle gas turbine plant on the outskirts of Dallas.
  2. the Colorado Bend I plant, which has a 530 MW combined-cycle gas turbine unit and a 74 MW open-cycle gas turbine unit (typically used for peaking). It is located to the south of Houston.
  3. The 150 MW open-cycle gas turbine La Porte site, south-east of Houston.

Total says that the purchase of the plants is “part of its development as an integrated power player” and the plants will “allow [it] to offset the intermittency of renewable power production”. The company currently operates 2 GW of gross renewables capacity in the state, is constructing a further 2 GW, and has 3 GW of further capacity in development. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant authorities.
