Reuters has reported that German industrial giant Siemens is considering splitting off all or parts of its gas and power business, either for floatation on the stock market or for merger with another company. If a listing did occur, it would be in line with the company’s strategy of making each part of Siemens ‘stand-alone’, capable of raising finance and operating independent of the rest of the company. Turbine orders have been down in recent years, although the company has stated that the “situation on the global market for fossil power plant technology remains unchanged” since it devised a new strategy to cope with lower orders in 2015. A decision from Siemen’s leadership is expected soon, though it is less clear when it will be publicised.
