The United Arab Emirates-headquartered Mubadala Petroleum is to work with Eni on decarbonising the energy sector, after the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding. The agreement covers the Middle East, North Africa, South-East Asia, Europe and other regions of mutual interest, and the technical areas will include hydrogen and carbon capture, utilisation and storage. For Eni, cooperation with Mubadala will help the company achieve its decarbonisation goals of net-zero for scope 1 and 2 emissions from upstream activities by 2030 and from all activities by 2040, with scope 3 also included for 2050. Mubadala CEO Mansoor Mohamed Al Hamed said that his company is “committed to playing our part in the energy transition. This includes pursuing a gas-weighted portfolio as a key bridge to renewables. It also includes investing in innovation and technology to advance decarbonisation and support the industry’s evolution.”
