Air Liquide has announced that it will add two new ‘renewable natural gas’ production units, in which methane is produced from biowaste from dairy farms, to its global business.

One unit is to be located in Center Township, Pennsylvania, and the other in Holland Township, Michigan, with both using anaerobic digesters to produce biogas from manure after a purification step using Air Liquide’s proprietary gas separation membrane technology. Together, the two plants will add 74 GWh per year of biogas generation capacity, bringing the total to 1.8 TWh worldwide across 26 production sites.

An Air Liquide spokesperson said that: “These investments in the U.S. are in line with the priorities of our strategic plan ADVANCE for 2025, which inseparably links growth and a sustainable future. Biomethane is part of the portfolio of solutions developed by Air Liquide to support the decarbonization of its customers in the industry and transport sectors.”
