Malaysian state-owned oil and gas company Petronas has launched a clean energy offshoot, Gentari, with its remit being renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility solutions, and a goal of eventually becoming a “full suite net zero solutions provider”.

By 2030, it aims to be producing 1.2 million tonnes of hydrogen annually, and to have established 30-40 GW of renewable power generation, while also having a 10% market share in some markets for electric vehicles (it is unclear if this involves manufacturing them or supplying them, and if it includes e-bikes and e-scooters).

The company will be looking to piggyback on Petronas’s existing network of customers and distribution mechanisms, with its first hydrogen project is expected to be online in 2025.
