Ukraine and Moldova connected to Continental European Grid

Completing “a year’s work in two weeks”, the Continental European Grid has been synchronised with the grids of Ukraine and Moldova on a trial basis. The process of connecting the two grids began in 2017, and was expected to take place by 2023 at the earliest.

owever, with the war in Ukraine, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity hugely accelerated this with their Ukrainian and Moldovan counterparts at Ukrenergo and Moldelectrica. The work will help Ukraine keep up electricity supply during the Russian invasion. A “number of measures to ensure safe and secure power systems” have been implemented as part of the process.
