The organising committee of the American Flame Research Committee’s 2020 Annual Industrial Combustion Symposium has opened its call for abstracts of papers for presentation.

Abstracts on all topics related to combustion and flame are welcome.

Presentations in the symposia will cover a wide spectrum:

• From fundamental research to laboratory, pilot and full-scale testing
• From computer simulations to industrial applications
• From combustion equipment design to operation, maintenance and troubleshooting

All combustion equipment types are addressed. A sampling of papers from past meetings is available on the AFRC website (www.afrc.net).

AFRC is hoping to hold the event in Houston, Texas – venue to be announced shortly. However due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the date of the Symposium has had to change. At the moment the tentative dates are 18-21 October 2020, but these will be confirmed soon.

The AFRC Annual Industrial Combustion Symposia provide a unique forum for combustion professionals to network, display their work, receive direct feedback, and learn from each other.

AFRC plan to host a Focused Discussion on Incinerators / Thermal Oxidizers during this Symposium. If you are interested in participating as a presenter or a panellist, please contact Jamal at jamal.jamaluddin@gmail.com.

Guideline for the Abstracts

Abstracts should be no more than one page and provide a brief overview of the presentation topic. These should reach Jamal at jamal.jamaluddin@gmail.com by the deadline of April 30th, 2020. Notification of acceptance will be communicated by May 31th, 2020.

Guideline for the Papers

Please note that AFRC policy is “No Paper, No Podium!” so if you do not submit a written paper by the deadline, you will be unable to present it at the Symposium, even if your abstract had been accepted. However, AFRC is flexible regarding paper format. AFRC is more concerned with the content and the value that it brings to the AFRC community. The full paper should be received by July 31th, 2020. AFRC intends to stick to the deadlines for receipt of abstracts and full papers, and urges you to submit your contributions early. Your cooperation and support in this regard will be highly appreciated.

In the interest of maintaining the quality of papers presented at the Symposium, AFRC encourages the intending authors to present work that contains new data and/or analyses, new analyses/interpretation of old data or enlightening interpretation of new government regulations or industrial practices. Papers based on data or information readily available in books, standards or recommended practices are strongly discouraged.

Further Information

AFRC is currently in the process of transitioning away from the University of Utah for support of the Symposia. They expect the new support system to be in place soon.

The planned location for the Symposium is Houston, Texas for the dates mentioned above. Due to the transition, however, the venue and the dates are not yet finalised. Also, the current uncertainty related to large gatherings, as well as travel restrictions, may force a change in the dates and/or location. A confirmation in this regard will be communicated to all registered attendees in due course.
