QatarEnergy has signed a new long-term supply deal with Bangladesh’s state-owned gas company Petrobangla, Reuters reports. The 15-year agreement involves the supply, beginning at the start of 2026, of 2 million tonnes per year of LNG from the huge North Field expansion project.

It is the second deal that QatarEnergy has signed with an Asian company in relation to the North Field expansion project (which will increase Qatari LNG production capacity by almost two-thirds to 2027 from the current 77 million, to 126 million tonnes per year), the first being with China’s Sinopec for 4 Mta for 27 years. Many further deals are expected with customers around the world (Germany signed deals amounting to 2 Mta for 15 years last year), as global demand increases and supply routes are reshaped following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

For Bangladesh, it is the second deal with Qatar as the south-Asian country attempts to secure LNG at a reasonable price over the long term. QatarEnergy chief Saad al-Kaabi said recently that by the end of this year, he expects that the entire capacity of the North Field expansion project will have been contracted, guaranteeing long-term income for the country.
