In an episode from Bloomberg’s Switched On podcast, experts analyse the effects on US green hydrogen production of the tax credit rules introduced in December 2023 as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.

The aim of the draft guidance for the US hydrogen production tax credit was to promote decarbonisation in hard-to-abate sectors and enhance US energy security. While applauded by some for its potential to prevent greenwashing, critics say the requirements are excessive and will discourage production.

Panelists include Kathleen Barron, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Constellation; Claire Behar, Chief Commercial Officer at Hy Stor Energy; Elena Scaltritti, Chief Commercial Officer at Topsoe; and Andy Vesey, President and Chief Executive Officer at Fortescue North America. Also under discussion in this episode, the lack of demand incentives compared with the EU, and the potential role of nuclear in the future of the hydrogen sector.
