French oil and gas major TotalEnergies has signed a 15-year agreement with U.S. industrial gases company Air Products and Chemicals. In terms of the agreement, TotalEnergies will receive an annual delivery of 70,000 tons of green hydrogen to its Northern European refineries.
TotalEnergies has refineries in Antwerp in Belgium, Leuna in Germany, Zeeland in the Netherlands, and Normandy, Donges and Feyzin in France. It also has two biorefineries in La Mède and Grandpuits in France. All are consumers of hydrogen.
The company says the contract, which arose from a call for tenders for the supply of 500,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, is a first step towards its goal to reduce net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its oil and gas operations (Scope 1+2) by 40% by 2030 compared to 2015 levels.
The two companies have also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the supply of renewable power, whereby TotalEnergies will supply Air Products with 150 megawatts produced at a solar project in Texas.
Together, the two companies also have plans to identify further renewable energy opportunities in Britain, Poland and France.
