Summit Carbon Solutions, which is developing the world’s largest carbon capture and storage project, has announced that ethanol producer Absolute Energy, which makes around 492 million litres per year, will become a partner.

Absolute is the latest in a string of ethanol producers (now standing at 34) to join the project, which stretches across storage sites in the US states of Minnesota, Iowa (in which Absolute operates), Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota. Upon completion, Summit Carbon Solutions will store up to 18 million (metric) tonnes of CO2 per annum, with Absolute Energy’s ‘share’ being 370,000 metric tonnes annually.
