  • Italian engineering giant Saipem and Capsol Technologies ASA are to partner on the joint development of projects in the hot potassium carbonate (HPC) segment.  Their expertise will be combined to offer large industrial emitters a reliable, fully integrated, and easy-to-implement solution of particular relevance to hard-to-abate and energy sectors.

Saipem is the EPC contractor for Stockholm Exergi’s large-scale bioenergy carbon capture and storage (BECCS) plant project, currently under construction using Capsol’s technology. Building on this already established collaboration, the two companies intend to further strengthen their respective offerings for industrial customers interested in deploying large-scale HPC-based CO2 capture solutions.

The new agreement enables both companies to collaborate on further bids and tenders where appropriate, offering a comprehensive package that “integrates technology, optimized design, standardized and modularized solutions, and execution capabilities.”

In a press release, Capsol stated that working with leading EPC providers is a central part of its strategy to make carbon capture easier to buy, and that Saipem’s world-class project delivery capabilities, combined with Capsol’s proven and cost-leading technology, would target a wider audience of emitters and accelerate deployment.

Saipem is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, is present in more than 50 countries around the world, and employs about 30,000 people. Capsol Technologies is listed on Euronext Oslo Børs (ticker: CAPSL).
