The government of Mozambique has begun to construct the gas-fired, 450MW Temane Thermal Power Plant, which is due to be operational by 2024. A range of international entities have been involved in the financing of the project, including the USA, Norway, African Development Bank (AfDB), Islamic Bank and The OPEC Fund for International Development. Transmission infrastructure will also be built to support the plant, with an overall aim of providing electricity to 10 million Mozambicans, many of whom do not currently enjoy such a service.
