Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Low Carbon Solutions Canada and Kiewit Energy Group Inc have been engaged by Heidelberg Materials North America to perform a front-end engineering design for its Edmonton CCUS Project in Canada.

Due to be the world’s first cement plant fully equipped with carbon capture, utilisation and storage, it is expected that up to one million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide could be captured and stored per year, should the project go ahead. For the FEED study, MHI-LCSC and KEG will use MHI’s proprietary Advanced KM CDR Process, developed in conjunction with The Kansai Electric Power Co.

A final investment decision is scheduled for this year.
