  • The International Energy Agency (IEA) has just released an AI agent that allows users to explore the 2024 edition of the Agency’s flagship World Energy Outlook.

The GPT tool is built on Microsoft Azure using Copilot Studio and is powered by an AI model trained on the full World Energy Outlook 2024 (WEO-2024) report. The IEA says it can answer questions about energy trends using natural, conversational language.

For example, a user can ask, “What are the expectations for growth in global electricity demand over the next decade?” and quickly receive an answer based on the report’s analysis.

The first-of-its-kind tool was launched in mid-December as a beta version. The IEA will continue to test and develop the agent over the coming months as it interacts with website users.

The launch is part of an ongoing strategy to make IEA’s data and statistics more freely available. The strategy includes development of a growing library of data explorers.
