A €150 million (US$177 million) green hydrogen plant is to be built in the central Spanish region of Puerollano in a joint project between utility Iberdrola and chemicals manufacturer Fertiberia. The plant will consist of a 100 MW solar photovoltaic installation together with an electrolyser to produce the elemental gas, which is to be used in the production of fertiliser. While not directly related to the combustion industry, the news is interesting in that it will be the largest green hydrogen project in Europe for industrial use, and the deployment will generate experience in the use of electrolysers and associated technology that will help to drive down prices.
