Germany and Namibia have agreed to deepen their partnership on green hydrogen, as a press release from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action has described.

While further specific agreements are to be made on a project-to-project basis, the latest announcement surrounds support for the Green Hydrogen Namibia Programme, the new Namibian green hydrogen organisation, which aims to build local hydrogen value chains, develop a national green industrialisation strategy, and conduct environmental impact assessments for green hydrogen projects. There are also plans to cooperate, through Germany’s national metrology institute PTB, on defining technical standards, as well as on regulations and training. F

urthermore, the Ministry has provided a letter of interest to support German company ENERTRAG in its Hyphen project, which is due to be the largest hydrogen production undertaking in sub-Saharan Africa, at two million tonnes of green ammonia per year.
