A fire has struck the conveyor belt at the rail offloading facility of Eskom’s Majuba coal-fired power plant in South Africa, making for dramatic images. No one was injured in the blaze, which the station’s fire brigade extinguished quickly, and moreover it looks likely not to affect power output at the plant, with road delivery still possible and a fuel stockpile of around 50 days present. Still, the news is yet another blow to the already problem-plagued Eskom, and sabotage is suspected by some for this fire, after a case of sabotage was recently confirmed at the company’s Tutuka plant.
