Solutions provider Carbon Clean has started assembly of carbon capture units for what is expected to become Europe’s largest commercial-methanol plant.

The FlagshipONE plant is located in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden on the premises of Danish renewable energy company Ørsted. Once fully operational, Carbon Clean’s technology will be able to capture 70,000 tons of biogenic CO2 annually for the Ørsted facility.

FlagshipONE is set to become Ørsted’s largest commercial-scale facility converting power into various fuels. The facility is expected to be up and running in 2025 and to produce up to 55,000 tons of methanol per year for ships.

Carbon Clean’s CaptureX technology is designed for partially pre-assembled units and is being built in the Port of Tarragona, Spain. The manufacturer is Schwartz Hautmont, leading producer of steel structures for the oil and gas, chemical, and energy industries.
