Norway’s Equinor and Germany’s Linde have signed an agreement to jointly develop the H2M Eemshaven low carbon hydrogen project in the Netherlands.

Linde’s role will be in building, co-owning and running the hydrogen production and carbon capture facility, while Equinor will “secure access to carbon transport and storage capacity and offer low carbon hydrogen to the market”. As this suggests, H2M Eemshaven is to reform natural gas (sourced from the Norwegian continental shelf) to produce ‘blue’ hydrogen; the planned CO2 capture rate will be 95%, and captured carbon dioxide will be stored offshore in Norwegian waters.

Supply of the hydrogen will be to piped networks in the Netherlands and Germany, and production is anticipated to begin in 2028. The production capacity has not been stated at this time.
