Global engineering and industrial gas company Linde is building the world’s largest 100% Oxyfuel fired steel reheating furnace at a steel producer in Asia.

In a project update published last week on LinkedIn, Global Commercialisation Director Joachim von Scheele explained that as a pioneer in the use of oxyfuel solutions in melting, heating, and reheating, Linde has overseen more than 1,000 installations across various industries, 650 of them in the steel industry. In steel reheating, Linde’s REBOX solutions portfolio of oxygen solutions include 190 installations.

The 280 t/h Walking Beam Furnace currently under construction is being equipped with 100% REBOX Flameless Oxyfuel combustion and has 86 burners with a total installed nominal power of 123 MW.  Per von Scheele: “It will be a very energy-efficient operation at about 60% of the installed power but with the capacity to have throughput rates substantially beyond 280 t/h.” It is noted that the furnace is much shorter than an air-fuel powered furnace for the same production capacity.
