  • The government of India is to extend its waiver on electricity transmission fees for green hydrogen projects begun prior to July 2025 out to the end of 2030 to help foster its goal of becoming the world’s cheapest producer of the fuel, as Reuters reports.

The move will reduce production costs by around 20%, and will last for 25 years after the beginning of each project, a considerable timeframe. India is hoping to eventually produce green hydrogen for between US$1-1.50/kg (€0.91-1.37), and potential producers Reliance Industries and Adani Enterprises have themselves announced price targets of US$1/kg. The government is reportedly also planning to offer green hydrogen producers other incentives worth around 10% of production costs.

Together, the signs point towards India become a major producer.
