A byproduct of the iron manufacturing process as carried out in blast furnaces – this material is tapped from the furnace in the liquid phase and contains calcium sulphide (CaS) plus any remaining Silica (SiO2), Alumina (Al2O3), Magnesia (MgO) or Calcia (CaO) that entered the furnace with the iron ore, pellets, sinter or coke.
