PSI offers three installations:

1. Bench-scale Bubbling Fluidised Bed Gasifier with Detailed Gas Diagnostics (BFB Gasifier)
The bubbling fluidised bed (BFB) reactor has a diameter of 52mm and a length of 1 m. The adjacent freeboard is 0.5m in height and 0.22m in diameter.

2. Container based System for Methanation (Cosyma)
The bench scale fluidised bed reactor set-up (COSYMA) was built at PSI and integrated into a 20 feet container to enable transport to the site of (industrial) gasifiers.

3. Hydrothermal Biomass Conversion Laboratory (HBCL)
The hydrothermal biomass conversion laboratory (HBCL) hosts several high-pressure devices (reactors, separators, view cell, analytical devices) for operation up to 40 MPa and 600°C. Current projects focus on the hydrothermal gasification of wet biomass to a methane-rich gas.
