New IFRF National Committee Chairmen Sébastien Caillat (Comité Francais) and Magnus Marklund (Swedish Flame Research Committee) participated for the first time in the IFRF Joint Committee meeting held in Pisa last month. They agreed to being introduced via MNM. In this edition we feature Sébastien and Comité Francais.

Sébastien Caillat is Assistant Professor at École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Douai.  He has an M.Res. in Aerothermochemistery and a Ph.D in Combustion from CORIA lab, Rouen University in Normandy, France and has been involved in research, development and teaching in industrial combustion and air pollution control with Mines Douai since 1999.  Since 2012 Sébastien has also been involved with their International Relationship Office.

Says Sébastien, “As a temporary visitor to this planet, I would expect to leave the place as clean as it was before, or even cleaner, without wasting all the exhaustible resources and leaving machines that I cannot explain how to dismantle to my daughter.  As I am not certain of being able to achieve that goal alone, I work with a team, and together we try to find pragmatic approaches to tackling pollutant emissions from industrial combustion systems.”  Sébastien is also a keen follower of Dilbert.

École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Douai (Mines Douai) is one of the leading engineering schools in France and is located in the north of the country.  The school provides higher education, vocational education and training, and research & development to academia, public agencies and industry.  The main areas of research are energy engineering, environmental management and engineering, civil engineering, computer integrated manufacturing, information technology, mechanical & quality engineering, and technology of polymers and composites.

Mines Douai is a member of the Mines-Telecom Institute, France’s leading group of engineering and business schools.

The outgoing Chairman of Comité Francais is Willi Nastoll of IFP Energies Nouvelles.  Fellow officers on the Committee with Sébastien are Vice Chairman Philippe Béard (IFP Energies Nouvelles) and Treasurer Alain Quinqueneau (GDF Suez).

Comité Francais has an extensive Member list including both industrial and academic organizations.  Their newest member is international oil and gas engineering group Heurtey Petrochem.
