Professor Meredith Thring, one of the founder members of the Foundation, died on September 15 at the age of ninety. Professor Thring was a  guiding light of the IFRF. He served as the first Superintendent of Research and was principal  participant in the early research at IJmuiden on flame radiation and combustion aerodynamics. As Honorary Superintendent of Research he continued his interest in Foundation affairs and has made notable contributions with his writings. His books, “The Science of Flames and Furnaces” , “Pilot Plants and Scale up Methods in Chemical Engineering”, and “The Engineer’s Conscience”, remain closely relevant to the mission and practice of our IFRF.

He will be remembered with our gratitude and be sadly missed.
