      IFRF Director

We were very sad to learn of the death of Jeff Rhine (formerly of British Gas and, more recently, a Visiting Professor at the University of South Wales) on 26th March.

Jeff was actively engaged with IFRF via the British Flame Research Committee over many years, particularly in the area of the utilisation of steel industry product gases in combustion processes, and played a key role in the successful TOTeM 23 on ‘Efficiency and flexibility of energy use in the iron and steel industry: minimise costs and CO2 emissions‘ held in the Netherlands in March 2003.

More widely, Jeff is probably best remembered in combustion circles as the co-author of the excellent book ‘Modelling of gas-fired furnaces and boilers and other industrial heating processes‘ with Robert Tucker (published in 1992).

Our sympathy and condolences go to Jeff’s wife, Gaynor, and his family.
