A preliminary programme has been published for TOTeM 42 “Industrial heating: Furnaces, Process Heaters, Kilns – Design of safe, fuel and environmentally efficient thermal equipment” which takes place in IJmuiden, IFRF’s historic home, and is being organised in collaboration with the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Vlamonderzoek (Dutch Association for flame research) on the premises of Tata Steel on 24 and 25 June 2014.

Of relevance to producers and end users of heating equipment across the industry spectrum, the event features an extraordinary range of speakers and topics, and promises to be one of the highlights in the IFRF calendar for 2014.

TOTeM 42 will commence with a site visit to the Tata Steel industrial plant at Velsen Noord, to be followed, on the afternoon of Tuesday 24th June, by a number of steel related presentations, an analysis of commercial CFD trends and a summary overview of “Clean Combustion Concepts”, a 5-year research programme in the Netherlands.

Confirmed speakers and topics for Wednesday 25th June include “Evolution of legislation in industrial combustion: emissions”, presented by Frederik Serné of GDF SUEZ Energie Nederland, “Effective fired heater design and burner layout” by Erwin Platvoet of John Zink Hamworthy, and “Flameless oxidation in existing boilers” , by Jois Kooman of Stork Thermeq.  The topic “New concepts for energy efficient & emission friendly glass melting” will also be addressed, as will “Modelling of cement kilns and calciner” and “Modelling of industrial cement furnaces”.

Other topics and speakers are still to be confirmed by the Scientific Committee. More information, including a Registration Form and the First Announcement, is available on the IFRF Events Calendar. Watch MNM for updates.
