The paper “Investigation of modelling approaches for scattering and absorption properties of particles in pulverized coal combustion” by Tim Gronarz, Martin Habermehl, Oliver Hatzfeld and Reinhold Kneer has just been published in the ‘IFRF online journal Industrial Combustion‘. The authors are affilated to the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer of RWTH Aachen University, Germany. In this work, the scattering of thermal radiation by particles during solid fuel combustion modelling was investigated, the results of approximate methods were compared to exact solutions obtained by Mie theory. The representation of radiative properties by tabulation and interpolation approach is also presented and discussed.
