This week, the IFRF Handbook initiates a new topic with the publication of a Combustion File describing a generic approach to life cycle assessment of the environmental impact of industrial processes.

CF283 What is Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)? – Open Domain

When considering the global impact of emissions from industrial combustion processes, it is important not to lose sight of the upstream and downstream emissions that may be associated with the changes being made to any given combustion plant. CF283 describes the generic principle of one such ‘life-cycle’ approach to the analysis of the total environmental impact of fuel and combustion process changes.

This Combustion File has been contributed by Raymond Tan of De La Salle University, Manila in the Philippines, following a three month placement at the IFRF. The CF was refereed by Handbook Editorial Board Member Mike Purvis of the University of Portsmouth, UK.

IFRF Members may read or download this Combustion Files at www.handbook.ifrf.net, by selecting ‘New Combustion Files’ after accepting the disclaimer screen. Other Combustion Files on related themes may be found by searching the Handbook with the  keywords like ‘environment’  or ’emissions’.

The Handbook Editorial Team would welcome comments on this new theme, including suggestions for related Combustion Files and offers of additional material. Please contact us at handbook@ifrf.net.
