The Finnish National Committee of the IFRF was founded in 1980 and currently represents 16 organisations, nine industrial and seven academic.  FFRC Chairman is Ari Saario of Metso Power Oy and National Secretary is Markku Nikku, a doctoral candidate at Lappeenranta University of Technology.  The committee also has four board members: Pasi Miikkulainen of Andritz Oy, Kjell Strandström of Process Flow Ltd Oy, Edgardo Coda-Zabetta of Foster Wheeler Energia Oy and Jukka Konttinen of the University of Jyväskylä.

The purpose of FFRC is to coordinate and promote combustion technology co-operation, knowledge and research in Finland.  FFRC coordinated the national research programmes “LIEKKI” in 1993-1998 and “CODE” in 2006-2008 and in 1992 published “Poltto ja Palaminen”, the only wide range combustion technology handbook written in Finnish.  A second edition was published in 2002.

FFRC’s large industrial members include Andritz Oy and Foster Wheeler Energia Oy, both subsidiaries of global conglomerates.  Andritz supplies plant, equipment and services primarily for hydropower stations, the pulp and paper industry and power generation while the Finnish arm of FWE is focused on fluidized bed technology and services.  Gasum Oy operates the natural gas pipeline between Finland and Russia, and Fortum Power and Heat is the largest Finnish power company.  Metso Power Oy is a global supplier of boiler units whilst Oilon International Oy  manufactures oil, gas and dual fuel burners in both Finland and China.  Operating globally, Outotec Oy  specializes in metallurgical and minerals processing.  VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland is the biggest multi technological applied research organisation in Northern Europe and is a not for profit concern which produces research across the board from nuclear to renewables.

Process Flow Ltd. Oy is currently the only small business member of the FFRC.  Founded in 1992, the organisation focuses on computational fluid dynamics, structural analysis and mathematical modeling services and software.
