In order to promote international co-operation and information exchange related to high temperature air combustion and gasification, the 1st International Symposium on High Temperature Air Combustion and Gasification was organized by Prof. Kunio Yoshikawa of Tokyo Institute of Technology under the sponsorship of Japan Science and Technology Corporation (JST) in Yokohama, Japan in January of 1998. Then the second one was held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in January of 1999 hosted by ITRI (Taiwan), the third one was held in Yokohama, Japan in March of 2000 hosted by JST, and the fourth one was held in Rome, Italy in November of 2001 hosted by ENEA (Italy), the fifth one was held in Yokohama, Japan in October of 2002 hosted by JST.  The IFRF contributed strongly to these conferences and welcomes the 6th Edition.

Following the very successful above five symposia, 6th International Symposium on High Temperature Air Combustion and Gasification will be held in Essen, Germany, during October 17-19, 2005. This international symposium will provide a forum for exchange of information on the latest developments in high temperature air combustion and gasification technology worldwide. Specifically it will be most beneficial to combustion scientists and engineers, fuel technologists, environmental engineers and engineers and scientists engaged in the design and development of power equipment and for information exchange on the potential use of high temperature air combustion and gasification technology. The focus of this international symposium will be to provide information on latest developments and commercial application of the technology.

The symposium will be beneficial to researchers and engineers from academia, industry, research labs and government working in the energy and environmental area worldwide, in particular from Asia, Europe and USA.
