IFRF Workshop at the 11th European Combustion Meeting

From lab scale to industrial combustion: challenges for the scale up of experimental and simulation approaches

The IFRF will be hosting a workshop on the 25th April 2023, the day before the 11th European Combustion Meeting (ECM). The ECM, which is hosted by the French Section of the Combustion Institute, will take place on April 26th-28th 2023 in Rouen, France. Our pre-event workshop will also take place in Rouen, as a warm up to the main ECM event.

Two keynotes and a workshop are planned with eminent members from industry and academia involved in industrial combustion.

Overview

Stakeholders from industry and academia are invited to participate, either by presenting their (advanced) measurement equipment or modelling tools applicable to industrial combustion systems or/and to discuss their experience and their viewpoints on the challenges.

  • What experimental parameters are needed to characterise industrial combustion systems?
  • How to validate numerical modelling of industrial combustion systems?
  • What issues when adapting lab-scale measurement techniques to semi-industrial facilities or to industrial plants?

Focus will be given on stationary industrial sectors: steel, glass, cement, power production, biomass, wastes as fuel, etc.

Venue

Law faculty, Amphitheatre 250 A
University of Rouen, Normandy
site “Pasteur”, 3, av. Pasteur, 76000 Rouen, France.

Easily reachable by public transport, or 15-20 min walk from city center, with frequent trains from Paris (1h20 from Gare Saint Lazare). More details on the ECM web site.

Call for abstracts and participation

Stakeholders from industry and academia are invited to participate, eventually by submitting a short abstract:

  • Either to discuss their experience and challenges,
  • And/or to present their advanced measurement equipment or modelling tools applicable to industrial combustion systems, and/or case studies.

No paper is required, work in progress is accepted. Poster presentation of your experimental setup lab, semi-industrial or industrial scale is encouraged. The intention is to use these during the workshop breaks to facilitate discussion and knowledge sharing.

Please email any abstracts, poster info or proposals to administration@ifrf.net.

Instruction for posters

Recommend poster format is A1 or A0 vertical, binder clips will be provided. The posters will be displayed in room 5, 1st floor, where the break will take place.

Authors are requested to send a pdf version of their poster to the organiser main contact (see below) for inclusion in the workshop proceedings (if they agree).

Dates & deadlines,

  • Registrations are possible until the day of the event but there is no guarantee of availability for lunch.
  • Event: 25th April 2023

Registration  & fees

Ticket prices are as follows:

Organisation type IFRF member Non-IFRF member
Academia/students 50 € 100 €
Industry 150 € 200 €

Places are limited to 150 attendees. Link to registration here.

Sponsorship opportunities

IFRF is a research and networking hub of the global industrial combustion community. The IFRF network extends from the Americas through Europe to Central and East Asia, and to Australia, covering the power generation, petroleum refining, iron and steel, cement, glass, and chemical industries as well as combustion equipment manufacturers, fuels and industrial gas producers and distributors, research institutes and universities.

Space has been set aside at the workshop venue for permanent sponsor displays. Conference sponsorship will enable your organisation to:

Reach a highly focused group of industrial engineers and academics with direct involvement in the workshop

  • Strengthen your company image and profile at the event
  • Promote your company and its products through the IFRF’s website, newsletter and events calendar
  • Company logo displayed on official sponsor boards, on the workshop flyers and programme
  • Exhibition space 3 m x 1 m for posters, roll-up banners, brochures including power outlets and a table for computers, brochures and small items of hardware
  • Listing as official sponsor on IFRF’s website
  • An option to present your company through a short article in in our newsletter Monday Night Mail that can include a direct link to your company website
  • Two refreshment breaks and a long breach lunch in front of the exhibition space is planned, so participants will have lots of opportunities to exchange with sponsors

The sponsorship packages fees is 1000 €, which includes one ticket to the event.
