India’s Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has completed the commissioning of an 800 MW coal-fired unit in an Indian-record time, at 46 months. Building for the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station of Telangana State Power Generation Corporation, IFRF member BHEL covered everything from design to equipment supply, construction and control system implementation. The unit is the first of a series of new units BHEL has been building for various clients, with 11 other units being built – five 800 MW units for a project known as Yadadri, four 270 MW units for the Bhadradari, and two 800 MW units for Telangana power station. BHEL now claims that it has supplied equipment for 183 GW of installed generation capacity in India and around the world.
