EET Hydrogen, developer of the UK’s first large-scale, low-carbon hydrogen production hub, has invited engineering and construction firm ENKA to work on its flagship hydrogen production plant at the Stanlow manufacturing complex in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
In October 2024, the UK Government announced it would back HPP1 as a keystone project within the HyNet Cluster. HyNet Northwest is an innovative low-carbon and hydrogen energy project that will unlock a low-carbon economy for the Northwest and North Wales and put the region at the forefront of the UK’s drive to net zero.
The ENKA deal represents a major milestone for the HPP1 project and for the UK hydrogen industry. ENKA is a global operation and is ranked amongst the most valuable brands in its native Turkey.
EET Hydrogen’s goal is to develop 4GW of low-carbon hydrogen production for industrial businesses across the North West of England. HPP1 will have a production capacity of 350MW and will capture around 600,000 tonnes of CO2 a year. This equates to taking around 250,000 cars off the road.
The World Economic Forum has just published a paper entitled “Unleashing the Full Potential of Industrial Clusters: Infrastructure Solutions for Clean Energies”. The paper examines the current challenges for clean energy infrastructure and identifies solutions that industrial clusters, transport and logistics industries, and the wider clean energy value chain can jointly explore to accelerate its deployment.
The paper outlines leading examples of stakeholders successfully using clusters to achieve outcomes unattainable in isolation. The writers propose that this collaborative approach be scaled by government, and by industry and academic organisations worldwide to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
