The Spanish government has announced authorising the construction of almost 300 renewable power projects with a total capacity of more than 28 gigawatts.
Aimed at helping the country meet its ambitious green energy goals, the projects represent a combined investment worth over 17 billion euros ($18.4 billion) and comprise mainly photovoltaic power plants as well as 43 wind farms and one hydropower plant.
Spain’s share of renewable-generated electricity currently stands at 50% of the total. The intention is to use the country’s sunny plains, windy hillsides and fast-flowing rivers to raise the share to 81% of the total by 2030.
