A new report from Germany’s environmental agency Umwelt Bundesamt addresses the question of whether residual and waste materials from biomass represent the most promising source of biogenic CO2 for synthetic fuel production.
The outcome of a research project entitled “Criteria for the Sustainable Provision and Climate-Friendly Integration of Electricity-Based Energy Sources,” the report presents current data on global waste potential from literature sources before examining the CO₂ requirements of technical processes for the production of hydrogen derivatives. Thereafter, a qualitative sustainability assessment of the considered CO₂ point sources is provided along with a comparative analysis of global potential and demand.
The report is available only in the German language. A brief summary of the contents of the report is available here (with thanks and credit to Clean Energy Wire).
