Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Energy is to work with Indonesia’s Pertamina to “explore new energy solutions including CCUS”, as the International Centre for Sustainable Carbon reports.

The two companies will jointly conduct studies and possibly business development activities, particularly in relation to carbon capture, utilisation and storage for the asset bases of both companies in Indonesia. The memorandum of understanding that the two have signed is part of Mubadala’s strategy, launched last year, to expand its business in low carbon solutions, and it also fits into the United Arab Emirates’ general approach to decarbonisation in a world with significant fossil fuel use – something the country will push as it hosts COP28 later this year.
