Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with Italy’s Eni regarding energy decarbonisation projects within the Southeast Asian country.

The intention is that Eni will be involved in feedstocks for biofuels (particularly from agro-industrial and forestry residues), carbon capture and storage, and energy efficiency projects in hard-to-abate industries.

Eni is already involved in projects across the country, and last year announced a find of 5 trillion cubic feet off the northern coast of the island of Sumatra, which it is in the process of developing. The latest MoU was announced during a meeting between Eni Chief Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
