In another sign of how the Russian invasion of Ukraine is reshaping the energy landscape, India’s JSW Steel is to source coking coal from Russia at “a competitive price”, according to The Hindu Business Online.

Australia is a major supplier of coking coal for India, but prices of Australian coal have been rising, especially after the end of an unofficial ban on Australian coal by Chinese authorities around the start of this year, and Russian fossil fuels are available at something of a discount following Western sanctions. To avoid the effects of sanctions while buying the Russian coal, JSW Steel will avoid using the US dollar for the purchases.

The company is also working on developing a new domestic coking coal mine.
