  • In September, Fuels Industry UK published the 2025 Fuels Statistics report, its annual analysis of the latest data from the fuel supply sector. The report was released together with the raw data informing the analysis.

The Fuel Statistics report offers a comprehensive view of the UK fuels landscape — from refining throughput and biofuel blending to evolving consumer demand and decarbonisation milestones.

Writing in the executive summary, CEO Elizabeth de Jong says the report “is set against a backdrop of continued market adjustments, persistent volatility in supply chains, and renewed efforts across government and industry to meet ambitious net-zero targets.” She adds that 2025 was an “extremely difficult year for the sector”, featuring the cessation of refining operations at Grangemouth, and subsequent conversion to an import terminal, as well as the insolvency at the Lindsey oil refinery – all in the context of energy and carbon prices amongst “some of the highest in the world.”

Significant details from the report include a 4% year fall in carbon dioxide emissions, the change in biofuel blending, and early growth in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) volumes. The UK delivered 3.7 billion litres of renewable fuels for inland consumption in 2023 — up over 10% from 2022 and now accounting for over 7% of total transport fuel use by volume. Biodiesel and bioethanol remained dominant, but renewable diesel (HVO) saw the sharpest increase, reflecting its growing commercial uptake.
