Eni and KazMunayGas of Kazakhstan are to work together on a 250 MW Hybrid Renewables-Gas Power Plant Project in Zhanaozen in the Mangystau region in south-west Kazakhstan, near the Caspian Sea.
The project, still subject to a formal agreement, would be a first of its kind in the country, and combine solar and wind power generation capacity with a gas power plant for the production of low-carbon electricity to customers in the area. Decarbonisation and diversification are the two stated aims of the project, the announcement of which comes after a meeting between the Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Eni Chief Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi.
Eni has had a presence in the country, through its subsidiary Plenitude, since 1992.
