State of Green reports that Denmark is on track to meet its 2025 climate targets.
Quoting from the just-published 2025 Status Report of the Danish Climate Council, State of Green writes, “Denmark is on course to meet its 2025 climate target, while progress towards the 2030 goal remains within reach but requires full policy implementation.”
The article states further that Denmark expects to achieve a 50% reduction in emissions in 2025. The goal for 2030 is a 70% reduction compared to 1990 levels.
Factors contributing to Denmark’s trajectory include the continued expansion of renewable energy sources, particularly wind and solar, and electrification across sectors – for example, increased use of electric vehicles, heat pumps, and green industrial solutions is contributing to lower emissions. The use of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies helps address hard-to-abate emissions.
For 2035, the Climate Council has examined possible reduction levels of 80%, 85%, and 90%, all of which would require additional policy measures and technological advancements. Beyond 2035, Denmark remains committed to its long-term climate objectives, including climate neutrality by 2045 and net-negative emissions by 2050.
