  • The Enping 15-1 Oilfield has achieved a cumulative carbon storage volume of over 100 million cubic meters, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) said on September 10.

In operation since 2023, Enping 15-1 is located in the Pearl River Estuary basin in South China’s Guangdong Province and is known for its high CO2 content. According to CNOOC, the cumulative achievement is equivalent to planting around 2.2 million trees.

In May this year, CNOOC also established a carbon dioxide utilisation project at the same site, pioneering a new model of marine energy recycling and effectively boosting crude oil production. Over the next decade, the oilfield is expected to reinject more than 550 million cubic meters of carbon dioxide, driving an increase of 200,000 tons in crude oil production.
