In another cement industry piece for this edition of the Combustion Industry News, Mexican building materials company CEMEX is to work with Carbon Clean to develop a carbon capture system for the cement industry that would capture carbon for under US$30/(presumably metric) tonne. The companies will work on further developing and adapting Carbon Clean’s third generation modularized technology, which operates using rotating packed beds, and they hope to capture 100,000 tonnes/year at an industrial-scale pilot installed in an as-yet-unnamed CEMEX facility. The pilot is scheduled to be operating by the first quarter of next year. If successful, the plant will be of huge interest to the cement industry worldwide.
