The 15th IFRF Members Conference will be held in Pisa on June June 13th to 15th 2007. It will take as its theme …..
Combustion in an Efficient
and Environmentally Acceptable Manner
This is the first Members Conference organised by the new Italian-based IFRF, and takes the IFRF forward from its first fifty years at IJmuiden in the Netherlands into its new form and location at Livorno in Italy. The theme of this years conference mirrors the objectives set for the IFRF when it was first established 50 years ago, and retained for the new IFRF. Of course, the world has changed in fifty years, and environmental issues have also evolved over that time. Then the environmental concerns were smoke and fume. Now, we are faced with issues relating to international and national limits on specific gaseous and particulate emissions. Most recently, these ‘traditional’ environmental issues have to be seen against an overriding desire to improve efficiency and take other steps to reduce the emission of Carbon Dioxide and other Greenhouse Gases, an unimaginable environmental issue when the IFRF was founded. The IFRF is updating its goals and programmes to match these changing requirements.
This new regulatory environment has produced new challenges and opportunities for the IFRF. The 15th Member’s Conference provides us all with the opportunity to share in the exchange of technical information relating to the conference theme with our colleagues from IFRF Member Companies. We will also have a platform to seek out mutually advantageous opportunities to cooperate in the R&D programmes needed to address these issues. As in past IFRF Members Conferences, this will all take place in a convivial social atmosphere reflecting the Tuscan location of the IFRF and the conference itself.
The 15th Members Conference will be the venue for the IFRF to deliver to its Members a revue of its output during the triennial 2004 to 2006, as well as its R&D plans for the period 2007 and 2008. In addition, the IFRF is seeking Member Organisations’ proposals for technical papers for presentation at this conference, both at the Podium and within the Poster Sessions. An Exhibition Session, introduced successfully at previous Members Conferences, will also be retained, giving Member Organisations the opportunity to present information on their products and services to the Combustion Community. Further details of the structure of the 15th Members Conference together with a form to propose papers and posters will be found at http://www.calendar.ifrf.net/event.html?id=63 . The deadline for the submission of short abstracts for Podium Papers is Friday 15th December 2006
In addition to the full technical programme, the conference will retain its tradition of a strong social programme appropriate to its new location in Tuscany. The weekend after the Members Conference is the date of Pisa’s annual ‘Festival of Candles’ and the annual medieval tournament on the river Arno.
Pisa. Luminara di San Ranieri. June 16th. On the evening of the 16th of June, the eve of the day dedicated to Saint Ranieri, patron saint of Pisa, over 70,000 candles are placed in all of the windows of the buildings that line the Arno River, all around the colonnades of the leaning tower, and also put afloat in the Arno River; the evening’s festivities culminate with a show of fireworks. This is perhaps the most heart-felt and suggestive of all Pisan festivities, first held in 1688 when the saint’s remains were placed inside the Cathedral where they can still be found today..
IFRF Members’ Conferences are reserved for IFRF Members and invited guests and only IFRF Member Organisations have the right to propose technical or scientific presentations of their work. All aspects of industrial combustion from fundamental research up to and including industrial application may be addressed.
