  • Engineering firm Kent has been awarded a major contract to support one of the UK’s first electrolytic hydrogen projects.

Kent will deliver Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCm) services for the 20MW MorGen Energy green hydrogen plant located at Milford Haven. The project is one of the first to secure a production contract under the UK government’s Hydrogen Production Business Model through the Low Carbon Contracts Company Hydrogen Allocation Round 1 scheme. It represents a key step in scaling domestic low-carbon hydrogen production in support of the UK’s Net Zero 2050 ambitions.

Kent’s EPCm services encompass FEED verification, detailed design, strategic procurement and supplier support, and end-to-end construction management. Additionally, Kent will oversee the integration of ITM’s Poseidon modular electrolysers and other key equipment packages.

The project is located within the Celtic Freeport area and will produce up to 2,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per annum using two 10 MW electrolysers. Hydrogen from the plant will be transported by truck in pressurised containers and via a short, low-pressure pipeline to the nearby South Hook LNG terminal. The facility benefits from established infrastructure, including storage tanks, pipeline networks connecting storage and jetty facilities, and road and rail loading capabilities.

Michael Collins, SVP Engineering and Consulting at Kent, said, “This project demonstrates how established industrial locations can be repurposed to enable low-carbon hydrogen production at scale.”
