Weichai Power has unveiled what is believed to be the world’s first diesel engine with an intrinsic thermal efficiency of 53.1%. The achievement was officially recognised by TÜV SÜD, and the China Automotive Technology & Research Centre, a professional testing body for Chinese internal combustion engines.

Since 2015, Weichai Power has been assembling a specialised research team to tackle the development of high-thermal efficiency engines in four main areas – high-expansion combustion, mixed-flow pressurisation, high-efficiency fuel injection, and low-resistance friction-reducing technologies.

During the development process, the team has been granted 176 invention patents and 68 utility model patents.
