IFRF is reconvening after a summer holiday break facing new challenges and burning activities.

Currently we are preparing for the start of the EU co-funded OnCord project, coordinated by our member by Technical University of Munich. The Project focuses on the utilisation of coal and its minerals to enable high shares of risky biomass in efficient power plants. Additionally, online corrosion sensors as well as an understanding of corrosion in power plant furnaces will be significantly improved. Biomass causes risk to high-temperature chlorine-induced corrosion, which can destroy superheaters. Preventing this by coal improves its acceptance and widens the utilisation of coal especially in CFB power plants.

In June this year the Swedish Flame Research Committee SFRC proposed candidature of Fredrik Normann from Chalmers University for a position of its new chairman. The candidature was accepted by Joint Committee and now I would like to highlight Fredrik’s profile to our wider combustion community.
Fredrick graduated with MSc from Lund University of Technology in 2005 and with PhD from Chalmers University in 2015 with a focus on oxy-fuel combustion and the control of nitrogen oxides. He is at the position of an assistant professor at the Department of Energy and Environment, Chalmers University since 2011.
His main areas of interest are new combustion technologies, nitrogen and sulphur oxides formation and emissions and kinetic and process simulations. He is a lecturer of thermodynamics and energy technology at bachelor level and he is a co-author of over ten publications in the field of formation and emissions of nitrogen and sulphur oxides as well as oxy-fuel combustion processes.
I would like to congratulate Fredrik his new role and wish him many successes in this role.
