This week, the IFRF Handbook continues its publication campaign relating to the use of Iron and Steelworks By-Product Gases, with four Combustion Files.  These are:

• CF249 – What are the options for the beneficiation of Blast Furnace Gas? – Members’ Domain
• CF250  – How do I estimate the effect of beneficiation on the efficiency of BFG fired furnaces relative to natural gas firing? – Members’ Domain
• CF251  – How do I estimate the adiabatic flame temperature of BFG flames with beneficiation? – Members’ Domain
• CF252 – How do I estimate thermal NOx emissions from BFG flames with beneficiation? – Members’ Domain

All four files focus on beneficiation methods for low CV gases. In addition to describing the options available to enhance the combustion properties of Blast Furnace Gas, they present quantitative guidance as to the effect of beneficiation on furnace efficiency and NOx formation.

All four files are based on results extracted from the IFRF G1 trials. I would like to acknowledge the support of the original G1 trial report authors, Jean-Bernard Michel of CSEM, (Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology)  and Roy Payne of GE EER (USA) (Energy and Environment Research)
